Resumen

La nutrición es el principal factor que influye en el desempeño reproductivo en mamíferos. Las funciones reproductivas como ciclicidad estral y el inicio de la gestación son funciones de escasa prioridad dentro de la escala de direccionamiento de nutrientes.; Estas funciones solo serán activadas cuando la demanda de nutrientes para mantenimiento, crecimiento y reserva haya sido superada. Conocer los factores nutricionales que interfieren en la reproducción de la hembra, es de vital importancia para posibles decisiones a ser tomadas dentro de los sistemas de producción ganaderos. En esta revisión se describen conceptos generales sobre los factores nutricionales que afectan la reproducción de la hembra bovina, como los efectos de la nutrición materna sobre el desempeño de las crías, los factores nutricionales que afectan la aparición de la pubertad en las novillas y como el consumo de nutrientes y la condición corporal de las hembras interfiere en el desempeño reproductivo de las mismas.
