Evaluation and therapeutic approach in a fluency disorder Evaluación y abordaje terapéutico en un desorden de fluidez

Abstract

This article deals with the case of an 11-year-old child who consults the speech therapy service for presenting difficulties in the rhythm of speech, alleging that they affect his optimal communicative performance. Taking into account the reason for consultation, a speech therapy assessment is designed and carried out, based on the evaluative criteria established by Fernández Zúñiga. The speech area is explored (fluency, breathing, phono-articulatory structures and musculoskeletal behavior) accompanied by evaluation of brain functions related to the motor processes of speech (orofacial praxias and auditory Gnosia). By analyzing the results obtained from the evaluation, a communicative diagnosis of moderate fluency disorder was established and a comprehensive treatment with a biopsychosocial approach was proposed.
